Aldi Gives Staff Pay Rise To £8.40 Per Hour
The discounter's move comes ahead of the introduction of a £7.20 national living wage for workers aged 25 and over from next year.

German-owned Aldi is growing in the UK, putting rivals under pressure
Aldi has become the latest supermarket to announce an increase in staff wages, with its hourly rate increasing to £8.40 from next February.
The pay hike by the discount grocer tops recent announcements from Lidl and Morrisons, which have said they will pay staff at least £8.20.
Aldi already pays store assistants at least £8.15 an hour. It said it would not need to raise prices to fund its latest move, which also sees wages in London rise to £9.45.
The German-owned retailer, which opened its 600th UK store in Cardiff earlier this month has announced plans to recruit and train more than 600 apprentices over an 18-month period starting next January as its UK expansion continues.
It hopes to have 1,000 stores by 2022.
If ALDI can do it, why cant the rest, who bar far have larger "profit margins"????

I wonder that too Victor. Aldi is amazingly cheap, so they can't make that much profit.

Good for them!
I think sainburys and tesco are going to struggle big time to compete with Aldi and Lidl

I think most of the supermarkets are running scared, they have had too much control for too long and let's face it they have been price fixing far too long..

Absolutely!
They're doing that thing now "your shopping was £3:61 cheaper than other leading supermarkets"
Could be lying. I never check

They do that thing where they give you a voucher if you can get the same thing cheaper elsewhere too. I chucked one out by mistake not long back - I was well annoyed with myself.

I made the mistake of giving him Sheba cat food once. Now there's no turning back.

Well at least your voucher had run out so you couldn't use it anyway. Mine was still valid, but I only thought about that after I chucked it out.

Hahahaha you're getting forgetful rags!
I hate being behind those women that have about 100 money-off coupons!! 10p off toothpaste and 2p off bloody soup or whatever! They save about 60 pence in total and I waste half my life waiting for them to hurry the F*** up so I can get on with my life
Pffffffffff

What was so ridiculous is that I knew what it was before I tore it up though eddie - it just didn't register until I'd done it. You know how you got annoyed yourself over that lamp because you'd saved money and then had to spend it on a new lamp? I felt like that - I felt like I'd wasted money, even though I have no problem wasting money at other times.
Those people with loads of coupons annoy me too - they hold up the whole queue. I bet they're only buying that stuff to get the money off them anyway.

Re: Aldi Gives Staff Pay Rise To £8.40 Per Hour
Hahaha I always think that! Buying shit to save 5 pence!
My grandmother was odd like that. She'd think nothing of spending thousands on a new car - only to say she hates it and trade it in thereby losing money, but she'd travel 20 miles out of her way to get cheaper petrol??!
Penny-wise and pound-foolish my dad used to say.

Yeah their cat food is horrible , my cats prefer Lidl cat food in gravy and i buy them Go Cat biscuits which they both enjoy .
I find Aldi really good .the quality is excellent and last week they had six types of fresh veg on offer 39p , i don't think their apples are very good quality or their mushrooms so i get them from Lidl too .

Re: Aldi Gives Staff Pay Rise To £8.40 Per Hour
There are some things i just have to pay for no matter what , such as soap and face cream and hand cream. i have to use Nivea its all i can use , so i get the soap from B&M and the hand/face cream, if i use any other my skin itches .
I even have to order organic makeup and nail polish from Lavera and i have to buy Organic sun lotion , I'm in big trouble if i use anything else.
Once we were sunbathing on holiday and a woman next to me sprayed Ambre Solaire on herself and it drifted over to me and i came out in a bloody rash had to buy antihistamine cream

I've got one of their shampoo bars - it's bright blue with seaweed in it. It's nice, and it does make your hair a bit thicker IMO, but it leaves a right mess in the soap dish.
